Warm Rocks by the Water
Liam and his mom went to the beach on a sunny day. Liam picked up a rock near the water and said, “This rock feels cool!” He then walked over to a rock sitting in the sun and said, “This one feels warm!”
Curious, Liam asked, “Why is this rock warm?” His mom smiled and explained, “The sun shines on the rock and makes it warm. The sunlight carries heat and warms up things it touches!”
Liam looked around at the sand, water, and rocks. He said, “The sun makes everything warmer when it shines on it!” His mom nodded and said, “That’s right! Sunlight helps heat up the Earth’s surface.”
