In Old Farmer Joe's pumpkin patch, one pumpkin named Grumpy refuses to smile, no matter how Joe carves it. The story takes a delightful turn when little Timmy visits on Halloween night. Through Timmy's playful interactions, Grumpy unexpectedly bursts into laughter, transforming into the brightest jack-o'-lantern in the patch. This charming Halloween tale explores themes of persistence, kindness, and the power of a simple smile. The vivid descriptions of the pumpkin patch and the characters' actions make this story an excellent resource for teaching young readers about setting, character development, and narrative progression, aligning perfectly with CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.1.3 standards for first-grade reading comprehension.
