Expanded Form Math Worksheets for 4th Grade
Common Core Standards require students to write in expanded form, word form, and standard form.
Supplement your lessons with Expanded Form math worksheets for 4th grade that help kids make sense of place value concepts and write big numbers in multiple forms.
Expanded Form of Numbers
In this form, students break down each place value piece and numerically write down each part that makes up the total number. So if we are writing the number 4,623 in expanded form, we are writing 4,000 + 600+ 20+3. Expanded form, sometimes called expanded notation, is commonly used with large numbers (3-digit numbers and up). Formal introductions to these math skills start in second grade through 1st-grade students may practice expanded notation 10+1 (it is not commonly referred to by its technical name). Try using place value charts alongside the worksheets to help students break down multi-digit whole numbers.

Standard Form Math worksheets
These worksheets require knowledge of other number forms as well. Students will convert the value of each digit into standard form.
